Our StoryOur Story

History

Since it began in 1997, Casa de Amistad's academic mentoring program has grown from serving just 3 children on its first night to over 250 children and adults annually. Students participating in Casa de Amistad are from school districts throughout coastal North County San Diego. Currently, 204 students come from Solana Beach School District, Del Mar Union School District, Encinitas Union School District, Cardiff School District, Carlsbad Unified School District and San Dieguito Union High School District. Over 100 individuals volunteer weekly as tutors/mentors.

In the past 16 years, teachers in our area schools have noticed an increase in homework completion and classroom participation, as well as improved grades and higher test scores among Casa's students. Many of Casa's 12th grade students have applied to and have been accepted at a number of California’s top universities. Since Casa began, the number of participating students going on to college continues to rise.
